There was a major discussion on how 2 power a laptop and I recommended that it be powered by DC from the vehicle and the discussion centered around square wave AC to DC converters.

The following is a site that will show U where to get the DC to DC device that will allow U 2 run your laptop directly from a 12VDC receptacle.
