Be very careful using anything metal to remove silicone. You can do an effective job with a plastic (non-serrated) knife or plexiglass ice scraper. Neither will mar the gel-coat (unless you use a pointed edge and gouge at the silicone).

Good point, Donna.

Or, if you do use a metal tool, then one trick is to round off the outside corners; that way it will be much less likely to "dig" in.
