lock?

Good afternoon everyone, (message to Ron...awning ordered..thanks)

The unit I have is a 1976 Trillium...it is in very nice shape. The door lock works fine, but I only have one key. The number on the key is very worn, and I can't get a match. Does anybody know where I can order a brand new door lock, with new keys?

Thanks every one, and happy camping this season.

Don

I had same problem but went to a good locksmith and now have all the keys I want. Thev locksmith is STRATFORD GLASS located in Stratford Ont. @ 47 Dover Street, 519 -271-8000. They had lots of blanks. Sure they would be able to help.
I would think any good locksmith in your area would help.

Hmmm. I didn't realize they were that hard to replace. We had a family camping trip and discovered that the keys were completely compatible with all units. The key for my old trillium worked in my uncle's brand new 5th wheel. It made me a little nervous of security!

Well Ron, I thought I found the best locksmith in Collingwood, came recommended! Well, this guy didn't even want to look at my unit! Sorry buddy, can't fix it!
So....I thought somebody on the board might know a better way. It doesn't really have to be fixed, I just worried about only having one key.

Thanks again everybody....Donny

Just had and idea...I'll call this locksmith in Stradford, get him to mail me two blank keys (I'll pay him) and have a "key guy" in town here do it for me. The problem was, nobody could find a blank key match.

Good man Ron.....you really have no idea how much you helped me. My canvas should be here on Monday...I'll make sure to let you know how well this thing turns out.

This is the one I replaced my busted Scamp lever door handle with... it has the same square diameter shaft, just needed to take a hack saw and cut it to length. I figure with so many people having electric garage door openers, few people carry keys for a garage door. Even the screw holes lined up perfectly on the door: Shop Genie Garage Door Lock Handle at Lowes.com=

I'm not really sure I understand the problem. You have a key that works, right? If so simply take the key to a lock smith, hardware store, even a WalMart and have a duplicate made.

Good evening....I can't, I've tried. The number on the key is worn off. Of the 3 lock guys in Collingwood, they can't find a match for that old key model. Without the perfect match, they can't cut the new keys.

Thanks..anyway, it's appreciated.

I'm really sorry you can't find a lock smith that can do the job. I've had keys duplicated when they didn't have the right blank. The guy made a blank by modifying another blank. I think I've got about 3 keys made that way.
If it was me, I'd simply use the trailer with large key fob attached to the key and every town I went through I'd try to find a lock smith that could do the job.

Thank you....I've tried 3 places and I'm new to Collingwood. (I lived here before, but that was 23 years ago) After the 3 guys gave up, so did I. I will contact those other places today...I should have just used my computer more.

Thank you again, enjoy this beautiful week end.

I ran into the same problem . I tried 2 Walmarts , 3 hardware stores ,
3 locksmiths and 2 Rv dealers "No Luck" It's not that they can't copy the key it is because they do not stock the blank key . One of the locksmiths said he could order the blanks but he would have to order the minimum quantity required by his supplier and I would have to pay for all the keys . (12 blank keys) and (NO demand for them), It was cheaper as Donna suggested and buy a whole new lock

key lock?

Thanks for asking about it....it was no problem after all, I just didn't get a good locksmith, the first 3 times.
Fourth time, easy as it could go. 2 extra keys cut that work, for 5 bucks.

Don, care to share the "blank" number? Might be helpful to those that are in the same pickle as you were...
