Since yesterday I have learned a few things about Scamps that I did not know. I have an '84
Scamp 13 (along with the 2001
Casita 17SD) but it is a 'bare bones' rig with no bath or holding tanks of any kind. The
Casita on the other hand has a front bath with shower, & both holding tanks. We bought it used but well cared for, & I immediately made appointment with Larry Gamble of Little House Customs in Texas to do their 'mods' to the gray water tank, along with a mod to the shower drain so I didn't need to 'pull a switch' for it to drain properly (they installed a Hepvo drain in place of the 'P' trap & lever switch). The addition of a vent tube & re-work of the gray water drain now allows the tank to drain completely, & very fast. Anyone behind me at the 'dump station' won't have to wait long (weeelll, no longer than for most other 76yr olds
). My black/grey drain sits low enough that I'd hesitate to take the
Casita on a really rough road but we don't do that anyway. Like Walt I'd install a 'hi-lift'
axle & 15" wheels/tires if I were going to frequent rough country. We've towed the Casita several thousand miles, over varied roads/terrain, through national forests, BLM land, & several Corps of Engineers primitive areas, with no problems yet from the 'low hanging' plumbing. At our ages we're pretty careful with our 'stuff' so I don't expect any problems.
Also like Walt, the two separate drain connections on the
Scamp 16 would most definitely be a deterrant to purchase for me. Probably, a few (maybe more'n a few
) years ago it wouldn't have bothered me; I'd probably have considered it just something to live with. Having now experienced trailers with more convenient arrangements, I'd be loath to 'take it on'.
I've no problem with the way Scamp's system is done, it's just not for me at this stage of my life. When you get on life's 'downhill run' you just kinda look at things differently... I ain't dead yet & with any kind of luck, I expect to be around for a while but we like things as easy/convenient as possible!
