I believe if you can find the date of manufacture you may find it out of date, there is a limited shelf life and they should be replaced approximately every 5 years. Possible they pulled an old one out of inventory.

One other thing. About a month before the incidents with the gas detector, I had the carpet torn out and vinyl flooring put in. Could this cause the alarm to go off? As far as I know, it never goes off during the day whether camping or not. If this is the culprit, why then would the alarm not go off if I release butane from a lighter right next to it?
Casita service dept says the detectors are very sensitive. Still confused....

Mfr date July of 2008, I think.

No, was not using any gas at the time. Even turned the gas off at the tank one night and it still went off - always in the early morning hours.
