LP Gas Leak Detector?

I just bought a 1987 Scamp and notice that it does not have an LP Gas Leak Detector, although the 1999 Coleman Taos Popup I'm going to sell does. Can anyone give me any advice about which gas leak detector is best and how I should install one on my Scamp?
I have a 12 volt battery (although I'm still trying to figure that out, too).

Hi Alex - I put a "Safety First" brand in my Boler. It was about 50 dollars US. I wired it to the lines coming out of the converter so that it will operate on either land line or 12 volt. I located it just to the left of the potty door - remember - propane is heavier than air, so you want it down low. A good idea to put one in - isn't your life worth 50 dollars? I was told when they run low on juice, they will start beeping until juice is restored. My question is, does it draw enough juice to drain a battery sitting idle over a winter season?

Mine has a power on/off switch, but it is an older one that was installed in the trailer when I bought it. Do the newer ones have such a switch?

I checked the Saft-T-Alert web site. For the 40 series propane detector the current draw is .046 amps. If your battery is 100 amp hour battery it'd take around 90 days to run it down. I don't think it's a good idea to let a battery sit that long with recharging.
