Hi Tim, Looks like you have a good solution.


The harder you make it for thieves to steal it the better. Thieves are almost always lazy, so they will look for unlocked tanks-easy prey, and ... thieves want to do their deeds where no one will see them. So a location out in the open, in this case, would be better. And some locks will help. Then they might steal tanks from an RV parked in the dark corner and/or without any locks on them.


Now, I've just got to get back to the positive thinking reality that most folks are good, decent & honest and not thieves.

The irony of someone placing their RV in a secure area only to "Borrow" the trailer next doors propane tanks.

While I keep my trailer at home, I know folks that remove the gas bottles, batteries, and the spare tire for storage in lots.

cable locks

Master Lock 6-foot Quantum Cable Lock

It may be a bit of overkill but consider a cable lock for an ATV or motorcycle. I bought one years ago to secure my bike and the cable is about 1/2" thick. They'd need time and a power cutter to get through these things. Some include the lock and others your add your own.

Have you thought about taking the tank home and using it as a spare for the BBQ?
