Mini Split A/C instalation

Has anybody installed a mini split a/c on their 13' scamp? Can the unit be operated with a generator?

I know of one member that did a split system but I think it was on a little bigger TT. He'll be along soon but you could do a search for "split a/c", there may be a number of posts. BTW, a generator will run it.

I put a 9000 BTU mini-split on my Scamp 16.
The total weight is about the same as a rooftop and more than a window unit.
Mine is a heat pump so it has the utility to do both heat and cool.
The unit I installed is an inverter so it has no starting surge to speak of and draws about 9 amps on 120 vac.
It has a seer rating of about 20 so it is pretty efficient.
The drawback is that mounting it on the tongue adds weight to the hitch.
Total weight is about 90 lbs with the inside unit (mounted in the rear) at about 16 lbs.
I have pictures in my album if you want to look at what I did.

Good luck with your trailer.

I was at the Land Between the Lakes Rally this past October and one gentleman from Clarksville TN has this setup in his Uhaul CT13.

Mounted on the tongue is the aluminum box with the A/C unit inside the box. Th box is vented as shown and he modified the cold air discharge and return air on the unit in the box to have these the cold air discharge and return air to be ducted through the 2 hose outlets shown at the side of the box and into the front of the trailer. One hose is for the cold A/C air discharge and one is the return air. Inside the trailer he ran the cold A/C hose discharge under the cabinetry to the rear of the trailer near the sleeping area. Same with the air return hose.

When using the A/C he hooks 2 hoses between the aluminum box that contains the A/C unit and the trailer thereby sending the cold discharge air into the trailer and returning the air from inside the trailer.

In this situation this is NO split unit. Just a window A/C unit modified to direct the cold air discharge AND the return air to the window unit mounted in the aluminum box. When in use he leaves the box open to provide any additional air the unit might need to run properly. He powers the A/C unit with a generator.

Neat, compact, inexpensive and it locates the A/C unit and the noise outside of the trailer.

A unique and different solution to your A/C needs.

We recently took delivery of a new ParkLiner. It has a window style A/C unit mounted under the forward side dinette seat. We'll have to wait for summer to try it out./wc

mini split a/c

Thank you for the quick response...now I know it's doable. I'll be at the Quartzite AR. gathering, maybe will meet and greet.
