before i try something truly stupid and wind up enjoying a stay at one of our picturesque local hospitals, is it at all possible to move an empty 17' casita by hand?? i'm dealing with tight quarters and a big turning radius....

On hard, level ground and with the help of a trailer dolly and an extra person, it might be possible.

But only on level ground!!

NO! Get help, hire a couple people, whatever, it isn't worth your health,
Or, you could lay around all spring and part of the summer
in pain,,,,

Welllll, my 16' Scamp isn't as heavy as your 17' Casita... but I have moved it around by myself on flat, level asphalt using a dolly as in Jon's post. A bit of moaning and groaning and pushing to get it started. Once it started rolling it was easy. It's those first few inches to get it started that were the worst.
Do you have anyone that can help with the pushing/pulling?

I could move my 13 foot Burro with the wheel down, on level paved surface. I managed to move my 17 foot Burro once by hand...it took me 3 weeks to recover.
Get a dolly. They actually make nice electric ones. I personally like this one.... but I think you could probably find one a "tad" less expensive..and less militarized.

Moves our Uhaul good, haven't tried it with the Casita. But seriously, as having a bad back myself and a hernia operation years ago, I would say NO don't try to move it by hand. And only on perfectly flat ground with a lawn tractor as something small like that would never stop it on any grade.

Much like towing, moving a trailer by hand is one thing, STOPPING it is another. When I had a pop-up I would move it by hand on level ground, but inertia was the problem. If it started rolling too much, there was no way I was going to stop the 1500 lbs. Another thing you can do is rig up a switch from the battery to the brake connection on the trailer's plug so if it does start rolling out of control and if you can reach the switch without getting run over, then you can activate the brakes. Test before using.

Certainly when working on flat ground is O.K....
It would be nice if it would be possible to connect the brakes of the trailer, but I think it's just the brakes small wheels that can turn ...
But could use on a slope steeper than 5% and still on a soft ground moidrement?

If you have a garden tractor with a hitch you can add a ball and move the trailer with it.

gilles, i have emailed the company with that exact question, and i will post the answer here. from reading their reviews, it seems that this trailer valet is used exclusively by boat owners....

If you are into building your own here is what I built. I moved our Casita with it.

alas, it would be prohibitively expensive to buy all the needed tools and take a course or two on fabricating for me to replicate what you have done! i'm fine with basic carpentry and home remodeling, but machinery is foreign to me! i am a trained horticulturist/landscape designer, though. if you make one for me, i'll come design your yard for you--how's that for participating in a barter economy?!
