Need advice with floor removal!

Hi, we are stuck :-/ Our floor was rotten in the middle of each floor peice. We cut it out but some wood still is on the sides of the walls inside the fiberglass lips. tried to dremel it out but think i just need to cut it off and use the scamp 4 inch fiberglass tape to redo the lip on the new floor. Any advice? thanks!

Leave the lip, you will need it for strength. Try a multi-tool, cut between the wood and FG or just above the FG and wire brush the remnants off. Might want to try cutting a groove first and use a wood chisel.

oh, Roy can you tell me if the ensolite is supose to be black underneath? If not we gonna rip it out...

Yes the ensolite is black underneath. It is a closed cell foam with a white vinyl cover coat.
NO don't rip it out, you'll be really really sorry. Much more difficult than replacing a floor. Search for threads on ensolite and you will see the problems that people encounter.

i was worried that is it is mold, our trailer was wet for years, right now we try to clean it... will upload pictures later

Mold is not as big of a problem as some seem to think. I'm assuming the black stuff on my ensolite was mold. I think we treated it right, 6+ years later and it still looks good. http://www.fiberglassrv.com/forums/f...can-25724.html

I found it is best to do one floor section at a time. With a multi tool and half round blade I cut the top floor tabbing close to the wall. I try to remove the wood and leave the bottom tabbing in place as a guide and a lower attach point for the new floor. I usually trim up the edges of the lower tabbing to have a lip about 1" wide. Clean and paint the frame while it is opened up. I make a pattern from lauan and pieces of cardboard using a hot glue gun for the curve in the back wall. Most of the floor has fairly straight sides the pattern is for the back or front wall curve. I cut the floor section out of 5/8" ext. plywood, dry fit the floor then remove it and coat the bottom and edges with resin and let dry.
I usually take the front or rear or both windows out for dust control and air flow while working on a floor. Next get the glue off the wall for about 3-4" above the floor. I use a twisted wire brush on a 4.5 grinder.
You are now ready to install the floor.
