I spent many hours on the bench repairing circuit boards for theatre lighting & audio systems. Two of my favorite tools are Solder Wick and, for clearing the hole after removing the component, a wooden toothpick.

Problem with using salvaged parts is you have to test to know you have a good part. When I used to do more computer repair I always had "known good" components at hand so I could test by replacement. Have driven myself nuts a couple of times with used cables or memory salvaged without knowing it worked. Stopped doing it.... eventually, I learn but sometimes slowly.

Hey it's broken now, it was sitting in storage so corrosion type failure seems likely, go for it! And let us know if anything blows up, or if it works. In case of explosion pictures are appreciated :-)

Houston, we don't have a problem...the eagle has landed! We got sound! Kenji, I love ya!

Just finished replacing the bad capacitor. Yes it was bad. If it looks like a duck, etc., it's a duck, fellas. Bought two new at electronics supplier in ALBQ, $2.14 each. A piece of cake, following your instructions, Kenji. No need to drill or wick the two lead holes; simply used a pin to ream it clear.
