I like the spare tire placement. Did you extend the front A frame? Anything to add weight to the front. I am getting ready to pull the frame on a Trails West clone and add either a tray or box to haul a 2K Honda generator and other stuff.

I extended it just enough to get the spare to fit, I think it was about 8 inches. I'm not a big fan of extending or loading the front too much, because both of the Campster style frames I have worked on have rotted and been weak at the juncture of the "A" to the main frame. Notice the triangulation we added to help the strength while maintaining light weight

well,,,,, if i was on the coast and concerned with salt,,,,i would go stainless.

of at least powdercoat.

In the interest of cost and value, I think an epoxy prime and paint, which can be rolled on by most people will be fine, since the originals lasted 40 years unpainted...ymmv
