New ParkLiner battery box

Like many other ParkLiner owners, we now have a new tongue mounted battery box. I did not have the tools to easily take the top off while traveling, so waited till I got home. To get the top off, you have to remove screws that are very difficult to get out. At least I had new batteries!

The starboard side of the top was not attached in what I would term an aesthetic manner (it was crooked), so I decided to drill and tap holes into the frame for easier removal. As I went to get the top off, I ended up having to remove the dual propane tank cover and propane tanks to get the cover off. While drilling and tapping the holes, I came up with a better idea. Remote battery posts like this for external charging and accessories:

When I get these posts, I will figure out where to mount them, and take some pics. Maybe this weekend.

When i finished, I had new 5/16 - 24 fasteners holding the top on. Today I ordered stainless steel hardware (including flat and lock washers) to finish it off. that stuff should be in next week.

When I had my rav4 I used a weight distribution hitch. ...the brackets that the chains attached to are still on the tongue...I need to remove them...then I can slide the propane tanks back and won't have to remove the white tank cover to use the tongue Jack.

If you find a 6 volt battery that is the same size as the 2 batteries then that would be a good improvement.

My brief interweb search indicates that 6V batts are about the same length and width as a 12v group 27 battery, but much taller (3" taller). The batteries pictured above appear to me to be group 24 batts, no way two 6V batteries are going to fit, what a shame. There is only so much space between the frame rails to work with. I suppose they could be turned, but then they crowd the propane.

I am seriously considering fabing a drop box for a couple of 6v batts on the tongue of my Scamp. But I have already removed the propane so that is not an issue in my case.
