Northstar Flameless Sunlite 3000

In my Bonair Oxygen trailer I have a Northstar Flameless Sunlite 3000 heater. I tried using it and discovered that it lights up but stops by itself as soon as I let go of the pilot light button. The instructions on it say to hold the pilot light lite for 60 seconds. During this time it looks like cells inside the heater start to glow red. The glow spreads as long as I hold the button pressed in. When I let go the glow goes out gradually over a few seconds. The heat increases and decreases with the glow. What should I do? What kind of maintenance should be done on these heaters?

Northstar Website

Norhtstar has a website and it looks like the heater is still in production and they sell parts. I would give them a call. Sounds like a thermocouple usually a minor repair.

Eddie is correct. Likely a thermocouple, likely simple, and likely inexpensive. Many would consider doing it themselves.

I took the heater out of the trailer and brought it to a propane supplier and repair shop. They plugged it in and it worked. Once lite with the pilot you have to keep the button pressed in about a minute and then release it slightly and turn the control knobs an extra inch or so farther left to bring it at its maximum setting. From there it stays lite. They recommend to keep it on maximum for at least 15 minutes. Then you can lower the setting to 1, 2 or 3.

I took it out of the trailer an brought it to a propane specialist. It worked fine. I just did not know how to light it properly. After lighting the pilot and holding it for 60 seconds you must turn the control button counterclockwise to maximum intensity. Let it heat for about 15 minutes and reset the desired temperature after. It works fine and heats well. Since it is next to the door, there is some natural ventilation occurring but just to make sure, you can open another vent somewhere according to the desired interior temperature.
