My awning is an A&E Horizon awning, same as Carefree Freedom 3 except the mechanism on mine are to the front of the trailer. My awning is what they call 8 ft. It extends out between 6 & 7 ft, I can't remember but it's plenty.

The case is 8' 3" long. The fabric is not as wide, so minus about 8 inches makes the fabric 7' 4" wide.

Here's some pictures:

Joy,

Is your's a bag case or a hard case?

Sharon

My A&E Horizon awning is a case awning as you can see in my pictures. So is the Carefree Freedom III. They are virtually the same awning. I've seen the Freedom III and the only difference is the mechanism where you put the wand to crank the awning out, is reversed. It's to the front of the trailer on the Horizon and to the back of the trailer on the Freedom III. All of the awning parts are made by Fiamma. Carefree and A&E put their own fabric on their awnings. The difference from what I could see is the design on the fabric.

Having said all of this, Casita for what ever reason is no longer putting the A&E Horizon awning on their trailer. They now put Fiamma F45's on them, which is identical to the A&E Horizon, except for the fabric.

It this as clear as mud?????

Personally I'd find out the current prices for all 3 and go with the one that cost the least, they the same awning.

When I purchased mine 6 years ago it was the A & E Horizon which cost the least. It's been a wonderful awning.

I almost forgot to tell you that if you are near a Camping World they sell the Horizon and have it on display. Also an RV dealer that sells Camper Vans will most likely have one that has one of the 3 afore mentioned awnings affixed to it.

Do you know if your awning comes with the option of adding a Screen Room or a Add-a-Room?

Yes, you can add a screen room I know to the 10 ft awning, not sure about the 8ft. You might want to check out the Fiamma site and see if they make one for the 8 ft awning.

Sharon it just struck me that you and anyone else going to the Spring NOG can see a 10ft Horizon awning on Donna D's Scamp and then the Fiamma F45, I think, on Linda & Dale's Casita.

Donna's got the trailer brackets also, but you might need a step ladder.

Hey Mike,

I just noticed you are in Minnesota. Where??? I'm coming to Minnesota in June.

We are having a gathering at Grand Marais June 11 to June 15. Come on up. Check out the "Rallies, Get together, Molded Meets" for the Grand Marais post. Be sure to let me know if you are coming.

If you live near my route through MN maybe you could meet up with me. You'll get to see my awning in person if you can wait that long. I'll be somehere in MN from 6/2 through 6/25.

Hi Joy,

I do live in MN, a western Suburb of MPLS. I did hear about the get together. Unfortionatly, we are not attending the gathering at Grand Marais June 11 to June 15. My brother is having his son baptized in Omaha on the 12th, so down we go.

Thought I'd share an email thread from Carefree of Colorado this morning.....

______________________________________________
Hi,
Someone has one of your Campout awnings that measures 7 long and 4.8 wide. The local dealer says no. Is it possible to get that size?
Thanks,
Sharon

______________________________________________
Sharon,

Good morning and thank you for your email. You can purchase a 7 campout. Awning size refers to the actual length of the lead bar. The storage bag will be 6 longer than the stated awning size. The actual fabric will measure 3 less than the stated awning size. Please let me know if I may be of further assistance.
_______________________________________________
(my reply)
Was really asking about the width. Can I get a 4.8 width?

_________________________________________________
Sharon,

The dealer is correct, the smallest size is 68

Hmmmm, I wonder how a 6'8" would look?

I've grown my web feet but 1 of my furry kids hasn't. Besides, I just like to stay relatively dry. I NEED an awning but I'm not ready to spend as much for one as I did for my '72 Boler. It seems like last year I read some opinions on the Awning in a Bag.
http://www.interwestsports.com/bag%20awnings.html. Of course now I don't remember what I read. I HATE to ask for help and many times I'll just be by myself with no help available and the furry kids are no help at all. Any opinions would be appreciated! Thanks Dusty

Hi Dusty,

We like to stop in at Northwest RV Supply when we're in the Eugene area - it's located just off I-5 south of Eugene. It's a messy store filled with all sorts of things, and they often have great prices. We have an awning rail on our U-Haul and were looking for an awning, and found a basic one there that works great. We bought adjustable support legs for it at GI Joes and the whole setup was about $80.

Jeanne,

Do you know how long your awning rail is & what size the screws are that hold it on? I would love to have one. There was one on the U-Haul when I got it, but it had some kind of aluminum gutter under the rail for some reason. Also, the screws had penetrated the interior fiberglass, so I had it taken off & the holes were fiberglassed.

Thanks, Patty

Hi Patty,

The rail is 7' 1 1/2" long. The screws that hold the rail on must be quite short because they don't penetrate the inner shell.

best wishes!
Jeanne
