Here are my photos of the bunk in the CT-13 that I took apart. As mentioned by others, the bunk takes up a lot of room when it is folded for a couch back. There is much less seat depth than other trailers. We are now using regular cushions for the back and prefer that.

That being said...here are some photos to help those that want to rebuild the bunk.

Also - another Uhaul camper member used my photos to come up with full size template, I have a pdf of this I can send to interested parties, who would need to get it printed on a large sheet of paper. He is working on the bunk himself and will post a pdf with any alterations once he has made a functioning bunk.

The bunk has a large piece of hinged wood that provides support. I believe the hinges in the wood are important to move the bunk from couch back to bunk and to help fold a little in the couch back position.
Bolts attach the hinge on the front wall to the piece of wood through the bottom fabric of the cushion. In the upright position the wood is below the foam and above the bottom layer of the cushion.

The notch cut out is for the kitchen side, so it can slip over the kitchen. The piece of wood is seen from above if it were in the bunk position. Note the metal pieces - they are nuts that bolts went through, the ones in the diamond formation were attached to the folding legs. The ones in a row were attached to the hinge.

Here is a close up of one of the special nuts - has a flat side with stabbing bits to hold into the wood (this one fell out - all others are seen still in the wood in first photos). The nut/bolt combos for the legs are slightly thinner than the ones used to hold to the hinge.

In case someone is looking for the nuts that "stab" into the wood, one name they go by is "T-nut."

I just hope that that bent hinge is easier to find than the bent hinge of the VT door. Kevin pieced the broken one we had together with liquid weld and swapped it around with one of the other 3, so it did not have so much weight on it.
I looked all over for the hinge. To replace it, I think we have to fabricate it.

The upper bunk on a VT is a cot.

Hi Bridget, Any chance that you could send me the PDF file you spoke of? I'm getting the shroud, rods and hinge from Pam G and the file would help me make a board to fit. Thanks for putting this up for others. This site has been a great help for us newbies.

Marty, I have sent you a personal message. Anyone else interested in this pdf, please send me a personal message as I do not check posts very often when busy with work. Happy to send it out to interested parties.

Hi Bridget,

Old news here. I have seemed to have lost the PDF that you sent me which showed the actual measurements to build a bunkbed for the Uhaul Ct. Any chance that you could forward them to me again?

Thanks,

Marty

Or better yet post them in the document center. This seems to be a common question here and at the Uhaulcampers.com forum.

So glad this old thread resurfaced! I was reading another thread about how to make the bunk posts in a Scamp more secure. Now I know what a "T-nut" is !

Wandering around this forum is like wandering through the aisles in a hardware store… you find solutions for problems you didn't know you had!!

I'd love to get a copy of the PDF if you still have it available. I'm looking at purchasing an '84 Uhaul without the top bunk (hinge is still in place).

Thanks,
-Paul

hello all. I hope to resume where I left off ( everything needs to be redone - gas, water, bunks, cushions, cooktop, etc ) as soon as this nasty , dragging out of the dog and pony show divorce is over. I have a question re: bunks. Can I get the measurements of the platform ? back and front ( length? width ?) as well as the angle in degrees of the side pieces ? Appears to be 23 inches wide ? Would the measurements be the same for a 13 casita ? Thanks. have been monitoring site ! remains to be a great wealth of info ! Great job ! great people

Hi Bridget, my name is Rachel, and I am new to the community. I just bought a 13ft burro, 82. I was wondering if you could send me that PDF of the bunk dimensions, as you described. Most grateful!
