adapter

howdy, Well for the first time at a campsite all the outlets were 30 amp and that sent me scrambling for the 10 buck adaptor. So may be a good Idea to pick one up ahead of time. The cable on my Boler has the standard 110 v plug. Also as earlier mentioned that if you are going to be using the camp water for drinking or cooking buy a RV/Marine water hose. They are not that much more money if any and also get a simple pressure regulator to put between your hose and the water supply. May save you blowing up your plumbing lines as some campgrounds seem to have a lot of pressure....Benny

the lower the gauge the thicker the wire

You need a thicker (smaller gauge number) the longer your wire run is. This is Due to Ohms law It simply states that if you multiply volts times amps you get watts. voltage in a long run extention cord is slighty lower at the end so ampage thur the wire goes up this cause the wire to heat.As a wire heats its restistance increases causeing voltage to lower more and increaseing current a larger wire can carry more amps.

so a 12 gauge is better then a 14 gauge . the outercase also makes a differance your typical pvc orange covered cord tened to be a pain to use when it gets cold out where black rubber coated ones seem a little more plyable as the thermometer drops.

The bad thing is wire becomes more expensive as it gets thicker and rubber is more expensive then pvc so dont be to shocked at the price of a high quality rv cord.
I am so glad i dont have ac mircowave toasteroven or and other electrical hog so i can get away with useing a cheap orange cable.
Al

What size wire?

Just what wire gauge extension cord is needed to run a 1500 watt heater or 7000 BTU roof A/C?

Sise is based on lenght and capacity

1500 watt heater 1500w divided by 120v come out to 12.5 amps
UL rateing min 16 gage wire under 50 foot
the 50 foot is the total wire length. say 20 foot already on trailer you could use a 30 foot 16 gage to run the heater thats min rated
going over 50 foot rudeces the capacity by approxomently 20%.
14 gage would be a little under rated so next size would be 12gage. for your loads <15 amps i would not go over 50 foot extention that is 12 gauge. Take a look at the cord you are thinking of buying it will have rateings on it. I found someone that explains it better then my cobwebed noodle can
