Por 15

Can anybody give me a guessitmate on much por 15 it's going to take to paint the frame on my 4500? The stuff is expensive!

We bought two quarts -- used maybe 1.5 -- on our 13' Boler. It's really thin stuff, covers surprisingly well.

I'm jealous you're in Telluride! We lived in Durango for a couple of years and would move back there in a heartbeat if not for older family members who need us here.

Thanks a lot Jess, just ordered 2 quarts. I'm going to be attempting this with the egg still on the frame (I know, sounds like a nightmare right) any advise would be welcome. I need to change my profile; we moved to Ridgway last fall (10mi. north of Ouray). Telluride was a blast but way too pricy to actually settle down there.

You will need a couple of FOAM rollers, 10 or so various sized foam paint brushes, and I would highly recommend the use of rubber gloves. I work in a high school and had a lot of explaining to do when I came to work for the next two weeks with black hands. (that stuff does not come off your hands). Other than that, it is pretty easy. I guess if you are painting while the frame is still attached, you will be lying on your back a lot. I would invest in a full face shield just to be careful.

We are still jealous of your location, Telluride, Ouray, Ridgway.... Lucky man to live in paradise.

I painted the frame of my pickup with por 15, great product. Take the above warning seriously. Not just my hands but as I was under the truck any place I touched accidently or dripped on me. That stuff does not come off your skin.

It does not come off your skin or clothing. I used it to paint the inside of new fenders for our 77 trans am before welding it to the body. When the wire feed welder hit the POR15, the welder stopped dead. I figured that the heat from the arc would just burn the POR15 off. I was wrong. Not only that, I had a heck of a time even trying to grind it off so I could continue the bead with the welder. Its great stuff. I know most all of the street rodders use it. Again, it's gonna drip down your glove and down your arm.

I would highly recommend getting a cheap rain suit and pulling the gloves on over the sleeves.

Good luck to ya! It will be worth the effort though.

When doing welding on metal with primer try getting a copper weld threw primer
U-pol makes a great rattle can.

Just remember por-15 needs an etch primer to be topcoated
And por 15 is a single component product which means it will dye back over time

But, only those areas that are subject to UV rays need to be top coated... like the tongue. The frame under the body doesn't need it.
