Portable AC in 13' Scamp

Someone gave me a portable AC for our Scamp. Here is how I have it set up. There is enough room to make it past the AC so the toilet can be used. This model has a shut off for the condensation. When it gets full I just roll it out to the door and dump it out. I also have it set up so all 4 of us can sleep. It is a little cramped but the kids are small. Probably going to add an add-a-room in the future.

So how are you sleeping 4 in a Scamp 13 with only the rear bed? Be sure and report back on the cooling ability of the portable. I'd considered that for our trailer but read reports of unsatifactory performance in hot humid weather like FL.

The AC is a SPT model 1010H. It has AC and heat. I do not know the year model. As far as sleeping 4 in a Scamp 13' with the bathroom, I built a platform which allows the kids to slide under the table/bed. I will report back after our next trip as to the reults.

I'd love to know more about this. I can't tell how this is installed, but it looks like there's more AC not visible than visible. The closest match to your AC I could find is this, it looks like it may be a newer/different model than yours, but the control panel is about the same?

9000 BTU is more than I think I'd need in my 13', and the size and weight are larger than I'd like. 16 by 16 by 30 inches, 72.6 lbs.



I'm thinking of something like this, but I'd rather find a small portable I can easily vent without major modifications. 15.2" x 16" x 12"; 36 pounds

Also being able to move the portable over the axle when towing and then putting it up front in use would be ideal. But I'm not finding any portables in the 5000 BTU, 36lb range.

That one is a newer model without the heater in it. Mine weighs 66 lbs but it rolls very easily. Here is a better picture showing the entire unit.

I thought about going with a portable AC, but I already had a 6000 BTU window unit, so I used it. Since I want to replace the heater in mine, this is one to keep in mind.

The AC worked like a dream! WE were very comfortable although we did not have to use it much. The only glitch was in the beginnning when I forgot to open the window so the exhaust could go out. Got warm in there for a minute!

I just wish the portable didn't weigh twice as much as the window unit 36lbs vs 66.

I love the idea of not having to haul it all the time and being to put the weight in the tow vehicle rather than the trailer. But they are just so big and heavy!

I think it was Marty D who used a similar unit and placed it in the lower closet of his uhaul ct 13. He vented through the furnace vent.

Almost every review I have ever read on these type of units has been bad, glad it works for you.
