Heidi, Joy A. came with a solution built from items you can get from Big Box stores... or even little ones. Maybe this is what you're looking for: Mounting a Single Propane Tank - Joy A's Solution

Just in case everyone is quietly thinking.... Joy replaced the bungy with a coated chain and padlock in another post.

Yeap that's right....I changed to a rubber coated chain and two padlocks so no one would be tempted to steal my tank.

Also if you look at my pictures you'll notice I put pieces of nylon over the nuts to keep them from rubbing the tank. All I did was use a drill bit about the size of the nut to make an indentation for the nut.

The extra strapping that you see is brought together with a screw and wing nut. Just put the screw into the proper holes in the strapping to gather tension on the tank.

Unlock one padlock, loosen the wing nut and lift out the tank.

Since I made my box for the generator which also holds the propane tank I no longer use the cage. I made a different hold down inside the generator/propane box.

propane tank holder

a 20 pound propane tank fits right in a milk crate. I always use them to transport so they don't tip over and roll around.
