Propane Tanks for a Boler 13'

Our little Boler we just got 2 weeks ago,
didn't have a tank we could use (old and not saftey approved)
So we turned it in.
I think it was a 40lb.

Just wondering what to replace it with.
I see some TT's running a dual tank system but,
I dont know if we really need 2 tanks.
I understand the advantage of having two so you
always have reserve when one runs dry.

We currently have just the 2-burner Range Top.
(No furnace,No 3way Fridge) just an icebox.
We also have a small gas BBQ that I just used
small disposable cans with.
(How can you tell we are x-tenter's ;) )

So I was kind of leaning towards 2 smaller tanks
instead of one big one. Can anyone offer some advice?
And what size tanks are available?
and what will fit on the front of the Boler.

Front of trailer currently looks like this:

Closer picture Here

I'm not sure if the current rack will accomodate 2 tanks.
If it can, what kind of connection do I need to add to
hook-up the second tank?...some kind of T valve, but forgive my ignorance ...I dont know the technical term for it.
We're trailer newbies :red

Mike

Hi Mike
Your rack looks like it would do two tanks but unless your planning on being off in the boonies for weeks at a time, one 20 lb tank should do just fine.

We probably go at least two summers on a tank. We only have stove and BBQ also.

You can get a T for the top of the tank to run two lines.

Thanks Nancy, maybe that old tank was a 20lb not 40

I cant say for sure, is that the size that most standard BBQ's have?

Perhaps it was dual 11lbs that I should be considering for a dual setup or a single 20lb.

If anybody has a picture of either, that would sure help.:)

I did manage to track down an LP Gas Changeover Valve (got the term right this time) to run duals:

Hey one tank runs and runs and runs

kind of like the energizer bunny . 13 pound in a 20 pound tank lasted 2 weeks for me and that was running furnace and feefer on gas. extra tan is nice but wiith all the bottle exchange places around east coast anyway one bottle will work

My 2 cents..

Most small trailers (13's) seem to have 1 - 20 pounders. The rest usually have 2 - 20 pounders

I've got 2 - 30 pounders, which may be overkill. Factory supplied.

(I'm like those people who always lose a sock in the dryer except I used to always run out of propane!)

Weight and the length of the time you go camping are definite factors.

Howdy Mike and Karen, I run one 20 lb. and put on 13,000 miles on my Boler within the last year and didn`t use a bottle up. Used for the stove and sometimes for the fridge and the last 5000 miles to also run the table top bar b que instead of the little bottles which became cost prohibitive....I located my bottle off the the side of the tray on the tongue a bit which made room to mount a battery next to it...Also if I`m not mistaken if you run two bottles you use a two take off regulator with one take off for each bottle ...At least that is what Ithink that I had on my bus conversion, although it may have only been a tee at the input into the regulator..Getting old and my memory is going west..,ha...ha...Best 73`s...Benny

"Propane Supplies"

Last fall I was using my Dolphin for a spare bedroom while friends stayed with us. In October, during which we had our first snow, 2 - 20 lb propane bottles lasted over a week running the furnace, fridge on propane and the cook top. I have a portable distribution tree from Coleman, which I use on the top of one bottle to mount a propane lantern and to facilitate tying in a barbeque. Propane prices vary in Alberta for a low price of $7.00 to 11.00 for a 20 fill from empty. If you have only one bottle, carry a small green bottle to get you through the night if you like. Cheers:banana

How many tanks?

I have a 17 foot trillium, with fridge , stove, water heater and furnace. When we are camping I also run a gas barbeque.

My trailer has two 20 pound tanks, and I went two years on one tank, about (5) 3-4 day trips. The fridge is always on propane, the water heater is on just long enough to heat water for a shower or dishes.I barbeque every night, and use a coleman gas stove outside for my morning meals, both of which are also tied in to my tank.
two of these trips involve cooking breakfasts for the two of us, three kids and their spouses and 6 grandkids .
the heater runs for two days straight each spring when we make our first early camp out

Howdy owen, Guess what really kills a propane bottle quickly is the furnace. With the bus conversion we could use up a 20 lb bottle in 2-3 days with the 30,000 btu furnace...We don`t have a furnace in our 13 ft and the one bottle seems to last forever.....Benny
