rash guard or protection for the front of the unit

We have had our scamp now for about a year, and from the few times we have gone out, we have some significant road rash on the front end bottom half. I want to do something to protect it before we head out on our long Post Retirement touring of the southwest. Any recommendations?

Go to a auto top shop and have them make a bra for it. I know the pic below isn't a fiberglass RV but it shows what I'm talking about. Haven't got one for my Burro yet. But it is on the list. It's held in place with simple snaps

Gabriele, are you asking for a DIY solution or a commerically applied solution?

Check out this DIY: Truck Bed Liner Coatings manufacture by Grizzly Grip. Roll On Bed liner kits available by Grizzly Grip. There are several here on the forum that have used it. And seem to be happy with the solution.

I did a DIY job that, very soon into the installation effort, I decided it's something best left to pros.

My dad and I became internet experts with that peel-n-stick stuff (I can't remember the name of it) by watching one or two videos on youtube. And then we went to town with the spray fluid and a heat gun. It was OBVIOUSLY going to be super easy, like in the video.

Well, by the time we were done it looked like an angry toddler had tried to gift-wrap my trailer. Luckily we got the clear option - I had been toying with some kind of patterned option that would have been a stylin' presence between the plain silver body paint and the diamond plate front storage box. That would have turned out really terribly.

Well, it DOES successfully protect my paint job from rock dings, at least. One day I might get something done professionally to improve appearances. But again: clear sheets, so it's not really all that noticeable.

What texture did you use? Fine or Course?
How many coats did you do?
How much was left over?

I had quick disconnect truck mud flaps installed on my Jeep Wrangler that appeared to keep the front of the Scamp clean, but I also had noted that some people had a mudflap system that attached to the draw bar, which gave a much closer and more complete protection.

We are not home for another 3 weeks or so to check the receipt, but I'm thinking I used the fine. Bought a quart and had half of it left after 2 coats. The lower front of our camper had old damage repair which needed smoothing out. I couldn't find paint to match the gel coat, had read a post by another member here about the Grizzly Grip, and decided to try it. You can see the size of the area I covered by looking at the photos in my album, the ones with the orange tongue box. It used the light tan color, wanted a darker brown that was in their color samples, and of course they didn't make that anymore. I think it can only be ordered by phone. I put it on with a 4" roller. Edit, I don't know if they will ship to Canada.

The one thing about a bra is that you can put it on or take it off when ever you want. There are times when you might not even want it on your trailer.

If they don't ship to Canada, being relatively close to the border offers a number of alternatives. Just takes a bit of planning. We have learnt that by picking things up in the USA the savings on brokerage fees charged by the couriers often pays for our trip. Plus duty free limits were recently raised for 48 hr trips.
