Rear stands necessary?
Less than two days to go before we attempt our first over nighter in our Tote n Tarry I need some advice. While cleaning out the storage bins under the rear bed, I found dad's jack stands. He used to put them on below the rear bed after unhitching the trailer, but I was wondering if they're really necessary? I mean if two of us decide to sleep together in the rear, is there a chance of the trailer tipping backwards leaving the tongue high in the air, or is there enough weight in the front to keep us on the ground? Keep in mind we have removed the weight of the stove, fridge, and propane tank on the tongue to keep it light up front. Is this one of those better safe than sorry things, or much ado about nothing type of things? If nothing else we'd have a great story to tell, not to mention some great photos to share if we end up tipping over.

Only needed if you don't want to have the trailer stand up on it's rear bumper when you go to the back. Don't ask me how I know.
If you walk or put your weight too far behind the axle the trailer acts like a teeter totter and pivots on the axle.
With all that stuff out you will want to make sure you still have enough weight (typically around 10%) of the total weight on the hitch. If you have a smooth surface and a lite trailer you can weigh it with a board under the tongue and a bathroom scale.

Our neighbors across the street tell a story of being in a Boler, playing cards with another couple. The trailer ended up on its bumper, and the door seemed awful high up.

Girlfriend will tell you of the time her 16' Scamp went for a trip with her inside while not connected to a tug..... all she did to cause that was step to the rear of it when the rear jacks were not down.

Besides, the trailer shakes lots less when the jacks are used. Drop the tongue, put the jacks under the bumper, or further forward if you want. Raise the tongue and presto, the trailer is resting on the jacks, wheels, and tongue jack.
Now when you get frisky, the trailer doesn't hop all over the place.

hahahaha, better than a carnival ride and a lot harder on the frame! OMG, prior to the big hack, we had a couple of threads going about folks sitting down at the rear dinette and the tongue reared up like a bronco. When everyone rushed to the front... BANG. You can image damage that may happen...
How much time would it take to put those jack stand at the rear to prevent THAT?
Safe camping Filbert!

I feel much less "alone" now that others have shared their stories.

A 17' Casita isn't a 13' Tot N' Tarry and there is a lot more tongue weight and leverage in the Casita.
Not only that, using the stands takes the bounce out of the suspension.

I am only 100 lbs, and I have popped a wheelie on my 17ft Burro, all by myself, without the jacks down before.
It only takes a couple minutes to set the jacks. I suggest you do. You'll like it. I promise.

Thanks everyone. My dad actually had 4 jack stands, and 4 wheel chucks under the rear dinette, and now I know why! We will definitely use all them on Saturday night, frisky or no frisky. I think the attraction to each other goes down considerably after standing around the camp fire a few hours. Eau de smoke does little for the libido.

I havet yet set my rear stands lol. I guess with keeping the rear dinette down and sleeping on the edge of the bed I'm right by the axle.... but I guess with 2 ppl its a good idea

Jack Stands
We do not put our jack stands down only when we are traveling, are just staying overnight, and don't unhitch from the tug.
Wheel chocks are also a good idea. You don't want to ride your trailer down any kind of hill. I just have a couple of 2x4's connected with a 1x4.
