Question RECALLED TRILLIUM 1300's?

Hello, all

I'm contemplating the purchase of a 1975 Trillium 1300 and came across the below recall notice while researching its history.
I'd appreciate any input as to how I might be able to determine that proper repairs have been made to the trailer I'm looking at.
Or have any of you acquired a 1300 lacking the repairs and completed repairs yourself?

Thanks

Francesca

Hi: Francesca Knowles...The usual repair, either warranty or not, was to add "Fishplates". Flat plates of steel along the sides of the frame tubes, covering the crack/weak spot. You will be able to see them as the tubes will be thicker there!!! The culprit was bending the tubes to a curved shape. Bolers curved into an A shape horizontally and Trilliums curved in a J like shape, upwards, toward the couplers. Most frame repairs were at or near the front of the coach body.

Thanks a lot, guys!
I guess I used the wrong search terms when I looked through the archives.
I'll know what to look for now!

There is something about this on Tom's new Trillium site. It tells you what to look for to make sure the proper repairs have been done.

I think Roy might be referring to the TrilliumRV site, but it has changed a few times lately and I'm not sure that service page is still online. Luckily I had saved that info from the original site a while back:

Quote:
Front Frame Recall Notice
In an attempt to strengthen the trailer frame, heat treating was done during certain model years in the mid 70's. It turned out to be a bad decision. A crack developed in the frame where the bolts go through. Notices were sent to owners on file for reinforcing gussets to be added. Since about 30 years have passed since they were built, any that would fail due to non-repair, would probably have done so by now.
However, owners should periodically check the frame under the front body where the bolts go through. If a crack develops, the frame must be reinforced immediately with these gusset plates.
This is not an expensive repair. Any good welding shop can do it in 1 - 2 hours.

Just for the sake of completion, here is a picture from the other thread of the cracked frame on my Trillium, with added reinforcement (on the left):

Is this the Tom's New Trillium site Roy refers to?
I've looked at this site before, but I don't see a service or parts link there ???

Yes Francesca, they redesigned the site and there doesn't appear to be a service/parts link anymore.... I suppose someone could always e-mail Tom at RVinfo@trilliumrv.com or use the contact page: Trillium RV Contact Us - The Best Vacation Travel RV|Light-weight Trailers

Francesca,
Sorry I didn't realize the site had changed. Daniel V.'s post #11 in this thread was exactly the information I was thinking of that was on the old site.

Smile Where to look

Daniel V,

Is that photo of the crack looking up at the frame from below or where?

Inquiring minds want to know.

It's from below, looking up. I'll see if I can find a better picture.
