I am considering an offer for a 1983 Casita, that has damaged shag carpet all over the inside. Does anyone know how hard it would be to remove it and what I can expect to find or deal with when I do??

Thanks!

April, I have not done this project, But thought of doing the same thing. (our first casita we purchased before finding the newer one.) And was informed that it's actually Sculpted Carpet, ( for the life of me, I can't remember who/which post ect, but they made me smile describing the sculpted versus shag. made it sound really pretty! ) Anyway the responces I had from basically the same ? was that it's a tough job, but worth it, if you choose to take it on. I think the glue used is what makes removal hard. Then Scrapping to get the surface clean and even before reapplying your new carpet. I did talk to a car restore guy and he suggested tuck and roll (like the car's in the 50s use to have) I investigated a few other options cause I kinda got the feeling that getting the new carpet up was tough as well. I certainlly think there are probably other options and most likely I wouldn't have re-carpeted But it's really what you want as a finish. Hopefully others who have done the project can give you the details, and help you with how to's. Robin

I am definitely not looking forward to taking out carpet, but he mentioned there were signs of mildew, and I am very sensitive to anything musty or moldy. I would like to think it could be cleaned up, but I know carpet, and I have never seen anything come completely clean from any form of mildew/mold. I guess if we take that project on, I will figure out what to replace it with after I see what I am dealing with. I am still not 100% sure that casita will be the right one for us yet, I think we want a Scamp.

Nothing is impossible given enough time, effort and money. Personally, I'd spend a lot of time cleaning and cleaning again before I went through the effort and money replacing all the wall carpet... but that's just me. As someone has said, it's no easy feat and not something you'll do over a weekend.

Anyway, here's a couple of topics for you to read: carpet needs to go

and here's Robin's topic when she first asked about it: Casita carpet....... Walls and Ceiling, Alternative?

Thanks for the links Donna!

As I am still in camper limbo, I still don't know what we will end up with.
