Removing tree sap

What we've tried without success: Goo Gone,Turtle Wax bug/tar/sap remover,WD 40
Next we tried a wet,plastic putty knife which didn't seem to harm the finish and worked fairly well. But the roof is already dull and the tannin from the sap left shadows.
Bigfoot suggest a Meguire product called "cutting" compound (#91 ?) and then wax. Anyone have additional thoughts,experiences or reconmendations?

I have found that Coleman latern white gas works great. It washes the sap right off and then you wash it off with soap and water right away. Then of course re-wax.

I've removed small sap spots on a car without affecting the surface with eyeglass cleaner. I think it's basically diluted rubbing (isopropyl) alcohol.

....cloth rag soaked in 'coke' and let sit on the surface has worked for me. I hope the 'stain' hasn't etched too far into the gelcoat!

On my tug, I've used peanut butter ... worked pretty well, and another time mayonnaise... hey, use what you've got!. The best is to have a good coat of wax on the trailer and the sap can't gain hold. There's a bunch of "Bug and Tar" removal products in any auto parts section at the store.. any of those should work too.

I tried an Amway for bug & tar.... they deliver and you can try it right in front of them.... give it back if it doesn't work. as I recall, it worked great though.
