Replacement for older Dometic Fridge

Just got word that to repair (actually rebuild) my Dometic RM211 will cost $550. Ouch! Do any of you folks know of another model that has a very similar footprint size or opening requirement size? It's going in a 72 Boler and I had to enlarge the opening for the RM211 and now I am almost maxed out, especially on the depth. Thanks.

Check out the ad by kootenaigirl. She purchased a new one for hers and then found a good used one close by. I think she was asking $450 even after customs etc. I believe she even lives in BC. It is listed under parts for sale.

I have someone who says the cheque is in the mail so waiting to see if it pans out! I have just changed my ad to pending.
There are some other folks who have a free fridge from a Scamp listed though, if you could pick up over the border they would maybe mail it and shipping would be a lot cheaper than a new fridge.
Thanks.

The only new fridge that I know of that will fit in your opening is a new 12V compressor type, costing about $900.

However, I have a complete cooling unit for an RM211 that worked when I pulled it out last year, plus some of the controls, but not including the gas orifice. If you want it, I will let you have it for free, but you pay for the cost of shipping. I was able to replace and/or fix everything on my fridge using parts given to me by Martin from Quebec, so I will pay it forward. Although it took some time, the repair and maintenance manuals have complete information, and replacing the cooling unit on this model is quite easy.

PM me if you want it.

Rick,

I am not sure what the market is like in BC, but RM211 fridges are plentiful in Alberta. I bought one for $80. It is practically new. It came from an old tent trailer that was being converted to a flat deck quad trailer. I guess the tent trailer spent most of it's life stored indoors.

Keep searching kijiji in the RV section. Set the dollar amount to 0 to $200 and search for fridge. I just did this in BC and there is what looks like an RM36E for $150. This is the fridge in my Trillium 4500 trailers.

I found this, too. I had to call them and coach them through finding the model number and brand. For me it was worth it, though.

There are several Dometics that will fit in the same space. The 2193 Americana is the same size as the 37 y.o. Dometic 23A in my Hunter Compact-II and should fit.
Here is a link to a page on that one with dimensions: Products - Dometic
Not that it will make your day, but I bought a 2 y.o. 2193 out of a wrecked Skamper camper for $40.

I have a different opinion and you get what you pay for it!

BUT, if you have a 3-way that fits the space in your trailer and you don't want to change size and any mods that come with that... $500+ may be a fair price.. IF it comes with the same warranty/guarantee as new(!?)

The 3-way in my 1988 keeps working fine (as long as the frig is PERFECTLY level), I know there is NO direct size replacement. So for ME, I'd look to replace whatever needs fixin' in order for the same refer to go back into the same space of my trailer. IF/WHEN the time comes, I'll contact these folks for an estimate for repairs: RVCOOL.COM - Supplier of rebuilt cooling units for Norcold and Dometic RV Refrigerators.

YMMV

I am now the sheepish owner of three RM211 fridges. My father in law's neighbour pulled the working RM211 out of her Boler that she recently purchased, and put in a bar fridge. She gave him the RN211, but he has no use for it. If anyone in the Calgary area has a need for one, you know where to find it.

Nope. Sorry. I still have my hot swappable spare, (not going to sell) and my bone yard unit. The cooling circuit works on the bone yard RM211, but some parts are missing. If you have an RM211 that the cooling circuit is dead, then you could transfer the missing parts and make a working fridge out of it.

If you are still interested, send me a Private Message, (PM). We can make a deal.

Hi David,

Do you still have a spare cooling unit for the RM211 that you're willing to sell??

Toby.
