Replacing pop rivets???

Hey folks!

I am wanting to take off my fridge/furnace outside vents and paint them. they are attached with pop rivets.

I am guessing I drill them out....

What do I replace them with?

Any thoughts on what type of paint I should use for the vents? (high heat I am thinking?)

yup, drill the rivets out and replace with nuts and bolts (stainless steel). I had my heater panels powder coated so they're good forever. not too expensive if you pick a color they do every day.

Hey Scott how did you ret behind the covers to attach the nuts? I think a fridge and furnace are in the way. Should I just replace with pop rivets? Any suggestions?

The proper pop rivets are "closed end" but they might be hard to find. Normal pop rivets can be used, just seal the centre hole in the rivet with a dab of something like JB Weld or epoxy to prevent water infiltration. And don't forget the butyl tape.

As for heat damaging the grille paint, this should not be a concern.
