Rope on door?
So I'm starting to dig around and try to figure everything out on my 73 boler. I am wondering though if this rope on the door is needed or if anyone else has it?

Hummm, wonder if the past owner used it to reshape the door.... I see a turnbuckle. If so, there are better solutions than a piece of rope...

I would say PO was trying to keep the bow in the door to help it fit tight at the bottom. Not a bad idea during storage.

That could be it, Donna. But that rope would stretch out pretty quick.

OK, so it does not bother me that much. Is easy to close the door with it. I am going to change it to some stainless aircraft cable though. Just found it odd I never see others with it.

We've seen several air-craft door fixes, including wire and turnbuckles. PERSONALLY, if it's just the bottom of the door that's flattening out, I'd try to figure out a magazine rack kinda thing out of wood and rivet that to the inside-bottom of the door. Double-duty.... and doesn't look like a poor DIY.

I'd bet dollars to donuts that the bungee cord would reach from the top connection point to the trailer tongue/gas bottle when the door's open....purpose of course being to hold the door that way.
Hooking at the bottom of the door prevents the loose end from gouging one's eyes out when it's not being used "as designed".
I base this diagnosis on my own similar high-tech setup.

It's for fine tuning based on wind speed findings arrived at by licking one's finger and holding it up to the wind...
Once wind speed exceeds bungee-stretch plus turnbuckle max, it's time to close the door.

There's no way of knowing how many times the rope has been replaced either. It's possible the original "builder" replaced that rope on a pretty regular basis.
