Running wires for backup camera thoughts

I just bought a new GMC 2500 SLT with the backup camera option. Had the dealer give me a camera as part of the deal. The instructions say not to run the wires under the trailer. My thought is to run them thru a pvc pipe then seal both ends. The only reason I can think why they said that is so protect the wire from road damage, rocks etc. If anyone has done this or has any constructive thoughts please let me know. Installing on a 2013 BF 25FB.

I ran mine under the trailer in the wire tubes from Harbor Freight. That's how they run them under the car chassis.

An option we found was the Garmin wireless camera that connects to some of
their stand alone gps devices. Don’t need a camera on the trailer yet, but that’s what we’ll do if we get one. Of course we have work truck trim level...

I installed the Garmin wireless back up camera in our Scamp 16. It displays on the 7" GPS on the dash of the pickup. I mounted the camera inside the rear trailer window and using the Garmin extension cord ran the wire along a corner in the ceiling hot-glued to the rat fur up to the front cabinet. I tied power into the bathroom light wires which are exposed in that cabinet and put a manual switch in the cabinet wall. I cut away a 2x2 inch square of the rat fur and insulation inside the front wall of the trailer and mounted the transmitter there so it has good line of sight to the GPS display. It works fine unless I have too much metal stuff stacked up in the back of the pickup. I use it like a rear view mirror (always on) but it is still a fish eye camera so if you can see anything in the display you know it is close.
