Rust Proofing Fibreglass RV Metal Frame

The frame on my 76 Trillium is in great shape but I plan to store it outside (this is the first winter we have had it but I believe it has been mostly stored inside in the past).

I'm thinking to have the metal tubular frame treated at Krown. Does anyone have experience with this? Any problems with the compound coming into contact with the fibreglass? Also, anyone who has had this done: how much of a nuisance is the grungy film the treatment will leave on the exposed frame?

Randy, The vast majority of Trilliums have been stored outdoors most of their lives. I have yet to see one that corrosion on the frame was an issue.

Not familiar with the Krown product but I do know a lot of trailer and car types use POR-15 to make their frames look all nice and new again if dealing with only surface rust.

Krown is an oil or wax based product Carol, POR-15 is a rust inhibiting paint.

I agree with David Tilston, you should be OK without it. If you were thinking of repainting the frame at some time in the future, I would not dream of putting the Krown on.

I have used Krown for the last 11 years on my van and underneath it looks like new. Krown can be bought in spray cans. One can maybe two will be plenty. Just spray it on the metal frame. It is useless for fiberglass. Two cans may be 25 to 30 dollars. Taking it to a Krown dealer will be $100 to $140 if it were a car. I would just spray it myself.
