Lock recall, does it apply to any of our glass trailers?

Ran across this recall today, sorry if I am posting old news, I tried to look to see if the recall had been posted before. Been out of the loop for a bit.......

Anyway, ran across this recall and my Casita isn't in the driveway for me to run out and see if it's the same lock. Have my Casita stored at a friends and they know nothing about Rv's so asking them to check for me would be useless! So Casita owners, is this the lock we have? I have had the incident described in the recall happen to me a couple of times, so I am thinking perhaps it is....

Yes it does appply to some brands. There's chatter about it over on the EscapeForum. I posted the information last Thursday here: http://www.fiberglassrv.com/forums/f...all-60231.html

You may want to read the thread to see if any Casita owners posted.

You have to remove the inside plate (4 screws) to see the model number of the lockset. The model number is molded into the plate on the inside.

Thanks Donna, sorry I missed the previous discussion!

Ron, Thanks for the heads up as to where to find the serial numbers! I would have not gone that far looking for them. Most likely got frustrated and gave up finding them.

But as I said in my opening post, think it's probably one of them. Because I had the issue a couple of times. Finally got out/in but not before panic set in..

As a few posted in Donna's link, I too have gone through a window, but because my Dh locked the key's inside. So I know that it can be done, but it's still not a experience I care to do regularly.

I contacted FIC this morning @ 1(800) 837-2505.
I asked the representative for a list of affected keycodes.
She said that they are handling the recall on a call by call basis.
Anyone who has one of these locks is welcome to call and check his keycode against what is said to be a very short list.
The code is found stamped on the hilt of the original key,and the Phone number is as above...1(800) 837-2505. .

No need, they are using keycodes to identify affected locks, go to the original thread....

Thanks for that info Floyd, just called FIC. The nice lady told me that neither of my locksets (Key codes HF 303 & HF 344) are on the recall list.

Thanks Floyd. Mine wasn't on the list. For those who call, don't play the game with the Blurb-U fone menu or you'll be leaving a message. Stand on the honkin operator button and you'll get customer service with whom you can check your code.

Thank you to the OP. I was hopping for a door latch this past weekend. Found one on Ebay

Fastec Travel Trailer RV camper Door Latch Handle Lock Black | eBay

didn't buy it yet. Just checked the manufacturer part # 43610-06. Im guessing the o6 after the dash refers to the year it was manufactured. Hope they don't get stuck with a bunch of door latches they can't sell.

You do know that the recall is limited to a few keycodes and that there is a remote chance of failure for only a few of those? Go ahead and buy it, check the keycode, if it is the wrong keycode, get a free replacement before installation!
Hey! Everything put together sooner or later falls apart!

BTW... My first fiberglass trailer was a 1973 LoveBug, look here....

Just checked my key code. Not on the list.

Very friendly, courteous service.

This issue may be floating around a while. Could we keep a list of codes that have been checked, with no owner info, so folks who find this later have a quick reference?

I spoke with one of the parts folks at Casita today. They received notice from the Fastec people that NO CASITAS have locks that will be recalled.

Here is a link to how to find your model number and key code number.
Frequently Asked Questions

http://www.fastecindustrial.com/faq/default.html

Note that in our case, the model number was on a piece of paper previously glued inside the lock but it had come loose and was sitting inside the lock when we unscrewed it.

When putting the backplate back on, be sure to align the D shaped hole in the red lever with its pin in the lock. And be sure the black tongue on the inside lock handle is on the correct side of the lock bolt. Then position and tighten the 4 screws in an alternating pattern.

When we picked up our Escape, they told us to return the key for the deadbolt to the 12 o'clock position before removing it when locking the deadbolt. There is a soft click when it gets back to the 12 o'clock position after locking the deadbolt.

Well I lucked out and my number is in the lot from the purchase from AutoTruck on Ebay. Will see what happens when I try to get it fixed. I think this link from Ebay was from Jared or Ryand and I know Slav bought one but I could be wrong.

I called their 800 number and it went to VM. I left a message so will see where we go from here.
Mike

Mine is 342 or #$@ if you do upper case

I wonder how they determined that only these numbers are affected? Mine is "348", which is not on the list but falls right between the last two (347 and 349).
