Thanks for that posting this link. It looks like pretty good information.

However it does show why I have objections to the use of the term "ground".
In the discussion about AC 120/240 the term "ground" means just that, the earth. The green wire is connected to earth at some point in the shore power distribution system, usually at the power distribution box.

In the discussion about the 12 Volt DC the term "ground" means negative battery. If the RV is NOT plugged into shore power negative battery is NOT connected to the earth. In some cases but not all, if RV is plugged into shore power the negative battery terminal might be connected to earth through the converter.

As you can see it gets rather confusing.

Better terms. AC green wire = safety ground.
DC negative terminal = (-) or negative

I agree with Bryon, although I do fall into the trap of calling the negative side of a 12V DC automotive circuit "ground". Another term which does not get confused with the safety ground is "return", as in the "supply" or "hot" (positive) and "return" (negative) sides of a circuit.

Information is good. Lack of information is not so good, but misinformation is much worse. Check facts, and apply common sense liberally.

I must admit that I too often call the negative side of a DC circuit "ground", mostly when talking amongst my career peers. Otherwise I try to avoid it.

As an Aircraft mechanic in the Army, we would send all the newbies out to find the bucket of "Dirt" (Ground) in the aircraft to change to freash dirt.

Check out our own DOCUMENT CENTRE. The 1979 Boler brochure, pages 12, 13, 14 have typical electrical system diagrams for 12v lighting, 6 way plug connections, breakaway switch and more. This information is of use to any FG trailer not just bolerites
