Sanding contours

Is there a tool or method of sanding the outside of an egg without doing it all with sand paper in the palm of your hand?

Yes, the pros use (apart from power sanders for the really rough work) a flexible sanding block. The best thing to do is to visit an auto body supply shop, or do an online search for "auto body sanding" and similar phrases. Here is an example of one...

Amazon.com: Eastwood 15" Adjustable Flexible Sander - Autobody Block Sand Sanding: Automotive

The key is to get the right flexibility, which is an art in itself. You could also do a "Youtube" search to see how the pros do it. The reality is that it takes time to do a good job.

Thanks GP, I did some searches and found some boat and airplane people using flexible boards as well as carving out foam and then attaching the sandpaper to the foam. I thought there might be another way that we fiberglass RV people did it. YouTube didn't, occur to me this time. Terminology helps when surfing the web.

Also look directly at Eastwood's site, they have a lot of auto body related tools and supplies. Use protective clothing and breathing equipment when sanding fiberglass.
