Scamp 13 Door Hinge Creaking Sound

Hi All,
I have a 2012 Scamp 13 Standard with an annoying door hinge squeak. I don't know if it's normal or not, but it only squeaks when opening the door. When closing, it's reasonably quiet. Seems to be coming more from the bottom hinge than the top...I wondered if anybody had experience with this, as I'm not sure if you're supposed to use some type of lubricant there, or if the creaking sound is normal.
I would sincerely appreciate knowing what to do here to fix it...or if it's a normal phenomenon. Thank you!

I like lithium grease for hinges.

Silicone spray lubricant!
Clean, doesn't collect dust and can be used on rubber, metal and plastic.
Get it on your hands it will wash right off.

What keeps it from washing off whatever you put it on?

Hi Francesca,
I like your idea for the lithium grease, as well as Perry's for the silicone. I went down to the basement and got a spray can of each, and began reading. The can of lithium says a lot about using it for outdoor hinges, but I'm assuming what they mean is just the usual metal-only ones.
Have you had any concern applying it on your hinges where that little rubbery compression thing is between the hinge bolt and the spring? I do not know if lithium is ok for rubbery parts; I am NOT trying to be a smarty pants.
If you apply a certain way (e.g., with a cotton swab or something) I'd love to learn of it. I used to use silicone on my pop up camper risers, but never had to do any lubricating to the door as it never squeaked.

I didn't realize there are rubber washers involved since my Trillium hinges don't have them.

Since lithium grease contains petroleum products that might adversely react on rubber/plastic, it may not be the best choice for your hinges. Silicone grease is likely a safer bet.

There's nothing rubber on a Scamp hinge. Brass ball, bolt and spring. That's it.

If you have something 'rubbery' on a Scamp hinge, that may be where the squeak is coming from. Like Donna said, there shouldn't be anything rubber on a Scamp hinge...

The brass ball thing just looks rubbery after it corrodes some. My scamp door rubs a little against the belly band and makes a noise when is open it. Maybe you're getting the same noise I do.

No rubber on my Scamp hinges either and I did replace the ball and spring last year. After I replaced them I did have to shoot *a little* WD40 into the spot where the ball sits on the hinge and on spring.... noise stopped.

I've got bigger problems now. See my post on FG flex and stress cracks in scamp door hinge. Sorry. You are all right. Thought it was rubber is indeed a brass ball. Silicone took care of some of the noise for sure. If you're reading this reply please read on to my new post cuz I need understanding and help.
