Scamp 13 Furnnce Question

Well, OK, maybe the photos below of my rusted furnace, are not quite that bad, but, lovely they are not!

Since taking the photos I have cleaned out the mice nest, and removed some of the crud!

The outer panels will be cleaned up and repainted. Maybe with auto engine heat resistant paint. Some day I'd like to remover the furnace and overhall (if necessary) and reinstall. For now I do want to remove the rust off the burner, and repaint the housing.

Comments on using auto engine paint?

Actually, that is one of the nicest looking Wagon Masters I have seen. There is still some paint on the heat exchanger.

Ha! Dave, thanks for that comment! There may be hope for the ol' Wagon Master Furnace yet!

I am wondering if auto engine paint would be able to stand the temperatures that a heat exchanger would be exposed to?

The only other high temp paint that I know of is balck paint made for out-door grills. Sherman-Williams tells me that is the only high temp paint they carry.

It does not look that bad. Dirty, yes, rusty, yes. I would try to figure out which parts (surfaces) used to be painted, repaint those, and clean the rest of the rust. If you do not leave it wet in the future, it will not get any worse. Rust does not grow without water.

If I were looking for high temp paint these products I would look to.

We have some rust in the vent pipe but otherwise not bad. I think it would be ok to paint the exterior rust oleum makes an ultra high heat spray paint.

Unfortunately its hard to avoid if the trailer lives outside in the wind and rain and is towed in wet weather as moisture can and will enter via the outside vents.

So true! And washing at a car wash can really force water everywhere!

Ny scamp is still drying out!

I was thinking more of keeping it dry while not in use or stored for winter.

Just a note to let anyone interested know that I pulled the furnace out of the Scamp.

Other some surface rust, it appears to be in good condition, with no rust holes in the air intake tube, or exhaust tube.

However, when I try to move the Pilot/Off/ON control knob, it will push in, but not turn. I have no idea what that means...except that I don't care to mess with it!

Since I have no plans to camp in very cold weather, I will not be re-installing it.

If anyone in the Oklahoma City area is interested in playing with the furnace, let me know by a Private message.
