Scamp 13' kitchen queery

I posted this question in the "mods" forum so I hope i'm not breaking decorum by posting here as well.

We have a recently acquired 13' Scamp. We took it on our first outing a couple of weeks ago and we love it.

What we don't love is the two twisted metal bars running between sink counter top and upper cabinets. it's very much in the way, and we would like to free up that bit of counter space.

I'm wondering if anyone has removed this piece without any issues, or if anyone knows definitely whether or not it acts as an important structural piece.

Thanks
Stephen

Stephen, no one says you have to keep the original twisted supports. We've seen everything from polished driftwood, chrome pipe, stained glass (window-looking thing), table legs and even a solid piece of wood with hanging baskets. I've thought about changing the supports out in my trailer to clear acrylic solid tubes. I could probably get something around 1/2" and since they're clear, I'd think they'd nearly "disappear." They'd still need to be mounted on the counter.... but, still....

Best of luck!
