Scamp Dometic 211 Fridge Needs Help

I'm the proud owner of a 1981 13' Scamp. We love the thing!

Today, when i was switching the fridge (Dometic 211) from 12v to 110v the switch knob BROKE OFF! I went online and found that ,unfortunately, the switch is no longer available.

Does anyone know where i may be able to get a replacement? or is there a way to wire a series of switches to make a DIY switch to get this thing working?

Thank you all in advanced!

You should be able to get the part # and find a replacement, it doesn't have to be factory original, just work

That would be great. Any ideas where I should start looking for a replacement? The RV shop I called simply said they didn't stock it.

Thanks for the link Steve. My problem is that the knob is intact but the actual switch unit is broken. The know literally twisted off. I've managed to spin the unit but it no longer functions. My guess is that the internals of the rotary switch unit are damaged.

The back of an RM211 looks a whole lot like the RM2201 and RM2202. I suspect that the switch is identical as well. If you want an exact replacement, it'll probably have to come from one of these models.

There's no magic to what the switch does though - it turns on the 12V heater or the 120V heater or turns both off, allowing the gas valve to be opened. If you never use 12V mode, you can just leave all that disconnected. Then you're down to needing something like a toggle switch that interferes with the gas valve being opened when on.

I'm sure Dometic didn't invent the switch so you will need to call Dometic and see if the part is still available. See attached parts list. Searching the replacement part number online was a fail for me so your stuck calling Dometic.

If that fails to get results then you will need to pull the cover over the switch and see if you can find the makers name and part number on the actual switch and search for that.

I did find this and it may help in your quest.

Thanks Steve and Steel.

I've called dometic and they've told me that they don't sell any replacement parts for the 211. The 2201/2 do look very similar, I'm going to look at those models as I may have better luck.

I am tempted to use toggle switches to turn on either the 110 or the 12v heating elements. Has this been done before?

Sure multiple switches will work. RM 219X fridges have separate rocker switches for 12 and 110v and a warning label "do not turn on multiple heat sources at the same time" :-)

How about one switch, ON/OFF/ON.
