Question Scamp door latch alternative...

I just bought a 2013 Scamp and am not impressed with the door latch. I can be locked out if my daughter puts the nail in the hole & unable to open it from the outside. Also if I lock the outside she's unable to get out. Has anyone found a good alternative to their original door latch that is more kid friendly? Thanks for your help!

Thanks for replying Floyd! Is there a key hole somewhere on the front? Does this one allow people to go in and out locking and unlocking on both sides of the door? Was it very difficult to install yourself? Thanks again for your help!

There are two key holes... one is a deadbolt, the other is a latchlock.(same key) It is a high-medium skill job for a DIYer(maybe a 6). Click on the link to see a great pictoral.

It does allow entry and egress from while locking or unlocking.
You can set the latchlock to lock when shut, thus requiring the key to get back in (just like most home entry locksets).

Gee why would a young child put a hanging nail in the matching hole....

You forgot the best one, you put nail in hole with door open, you step away to get something... and door closes.

On the plus side if you have a crescent wrench and pair of pliers you can always remove the hinge pins, they are after all on the outside.

Don't ask how I know.

Floyd, Pic's are great! Do you happen to know where I can find one? Or a part description and/or part number so I can look it up? Thanks again for your help!

All locksets, even the gazillion dollar RVs are crappy. Scamp requires a "nail" to be put inside a little tiny hole to lock from the inside. Others you hit a flipper... feel safe now? Any RV with hinges on the outside can be "overcome."

Maybe it's a "training" issue rather than a mechanical problem?

I hope you find a solution that works for you, truly
