Scamp door repair

Hello Everyone.....
I am new to this site and slowly learning how to navigate on it.
We recently purchased a 1979 Scamp 16'. It is in need of some
repairs before we can enjoy camping in it. I have already purchased
new fabric for curtains and cushions. We are going to try redoing the
door. There is a lot of info on here so hopefully we will be quite
successful.
My main thing is not to get discouraged being new to DIY. It will
also need to be totally rewired, hopefully this is not a hard task to
complete.
Any comments or advise is greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading
my post

Annie

Hello Annie and welcome. Lots of Scamp owners here and lots of folks have done and shared what you want to do. There is a really good search function that will yeild hours of reading. I have found if you hit the search button and then use the lower Goggle search you will get better results. Enjoy, Raz

Hi Annie, welcome to FiberglassRV, we're glad you're here

the title of this thread is Scamp door repair, but I don't see any question about the door in your post. Is there something you need help with for the door?

Scamp door

My husband tried to repair the door. Our also had water and black smelly stuff inside. It was taken completely redone. He reframed the window with 1/2 inch birch plywood as well as the door handle. He used 1/2 inch styrafone as a filler for the door. Then when putting it back together the used resin with fiberglass mat.

He tried his best since this is our first time to own this kind of camper. Well....now the door did what I call a backwards curve. There is a huge gap at the top and bottom. We bought complete new hinges and door handle. We are going to tackle the door again Sunday since temperatures have dropped here in Texas. We are going to take the door completely apart and start again.

We thought about putting straps around the door while its curing out to help it curve back. On the inside he used a sheet of styrafoam in the lower part but will now cut into strips and reglue.

Will this help our door or will it turn out bad again? Please ask questions and I will answer best as I can.

Thanks........
Annie

Hi Raz....

I did use the search like you said and it was much easier and a lot was on there. Thank you so much

Annie, there's a couple of documents for fixing aircraft-style doors. I'd suggest downloading these and do a bit of investigation before trying again:

Con's Door Fix in the Document Center

there's a number of PDFs in this post and you need them all: Scamp Door Repair and Mods

Good luck and let us know how it's going

Hello Donna,

I wasn't really sure what to say when I wrote my first post.
The door was already redone. I do have a new post asking a few
questions since the door will be redone again.

Thanks much for asking

Annie & Mike

The door has extra holes from a different knob that was put on.
I purchased the one from Scamp. Mike put a strike plate on the outside to cover the holes. He sealed it with plumbers tape. It looks ok but there has to be a different fix. Any suggestions?

Annie
