Hi --

We are new scamp owners... we just took ownership of a 94 13'. I've printed and read the manual in the documents area posted here, but one thing I haven't figured out: how do we lock the door from the inside? I don't see any "switch" or button to press that would lock the door. If there is a thread here on how the lock works, or a picture, I'd appreciate a pointer to it.

Thanks. -- Sheryl

Sheryl,
If your lock is like ours, there's a metal pin on a short chain by the door handle. You just stick the pin in the little hole beneath the door handle. We have to lift the handle slightly to see the hole. It's a rather primitive system but it does work.

Sheryl,

Our pin was gone on our 81 13' Scamp and when I figured out it needed one I use a bolt that is just the right size for the hole. The first few trips we played "where's the bolt" and I now have it on a lanyard attached to the lock.

A bolt? In the hole? Must be a SKINNY bolt, the hole is about the same size as one for a 10 penny nail.

Well thanks for all the tips. I do see the hole, now that you mention it, and no, there's not a bolt hanging near the door. We'll experiment with a small nail, eye hook or something similar.

So how long is the original latch / rod? Something like 1/2" long, that just sticks straight into the door, or does it go in and curve down?

Straight in. I think the pin for my Scamp is about 2" long. Obviously only some (half??) of that goes into the lock. Gotta have something to grab. All the pin does is keeps the door handle from moving, consequently the shaft doesn't move away from the strike plate.
