Scamp Newbie: how to remove benches?

My husband and I just purchased a 1979 13' Scamp and though a lot of work has been done, the flooring is old and carpeted. We'd like to rip it up and put down vinyl planks. First things first, how do we get the dinette benches up to pull out all of the carpet and put new flooring down? Second, any recommendations on what kind of vinyl plank flooring will work best? Any prep needed to the floor prior? Thanks for any and all advice. We are very green when it comes to this kind of thing.

Flooring install

There's a good thread with pics over at the SOI forum:

New Allure Vinyl Plank Flooring | Scamp Owners International

It sure dressed up the Scamp!!

There's another thread over there with more details on removing the dinette bunks, just poke around and you'll find it.

Thanks so much, piperjim! I thought there was probably a thread that addressed this, but had looked around but couldn't find one. I appreciate your help!

removing benches

The benches are held in place with wood screws into the floor and into a wood rail below the bench top. The flooring carpet is glued in place, you'll have to scrape the remainder of the glue off before putting down anything else. I used cork tile.

You will also need a #2 square drive (Robinson to the Canadians) screwdriver or bit to back out those screws.

If you haven't already got one, a good screw gun is your best friend when working on RV's.... DO NOT use a regular drill unless you can set the torque. Drills + square drive bits can easily tear out screws in wood and fiberglass.
