Dylan,

Are you going to put that unit in the closet? The closet is 20” wide right? If that is you intension, this unit and the closet’s width dimension doesn’t leave much room for air to circulate around the unit to cool the compressor. How do you plan to work around that issue?

I just bought my Scamp 13 and it has a window unit under the closet. Looks professionally done, but it's old and the compressor doesnt work. I can take some pics and measurements of mine if it would help.

I have a small window unit in my house that looks much smaller than the unit thats in my Scamp. I can measure today and give you guys some numbers if it might help. I'm going to wait until spring until tackling my ac repair though.

I was hoping 3/4" on each side would be enough if designed well. Perhaps adding some muffin fans to help flow.

But I saw a older Frigidaire with the remote that is not as wide, I think 16". FAA087S7A

Doesn't seem to be any old stock around, but the owner of the unit I saw says he'd be happy to trade it to be for the newer, wider model since it's in his office window.

OK, I'm thinking about this closet AC project again. Tom, looking at this again I think your AC selection is excellent.

I'm so close to hitting "buy" on this one:
Amazon.com: Frigidaire FRA054XT7 5,000 BTU Window-Mounted Mini Room Air Conditioner: Home & Kitchen

15.25-Inches L x 16-Inches W x 12-Inches H, 36 pounds, $139 free shipping (Prime)

But I'm still unsure of installing in the closet above the wheel well, in my 2001 13' Scamp.

There's good pictures of a closet install, but it's a closet that goes floor to ceiling, with no wheel well in the bottom.

I am probably using the wrong terminology, but my understanding is that the room air intake is on the front of the air conditioner, and it pulls room air into the air conditioner, cools it on the cold side coils, and blows it back into the room.

The exhaust from the rear is air blowing across the hot side coils and then outside. The purpose of the exhaust air is to carry the heat away from the hot side coils and into the atmosphere. Am i correct?

I am really curious, as i expect to be installing an ac in my closet this summer.
yup!
