Scamp Window Gasket Replacement

Like many, I have some leaks to deal with. We took a water hose and "made rain" and found that water was coming in through the centers of the windows. After further investigation the gasket material was allowing way too much water to build up (more than could escape the drain).
I have on order some window gasket material from scamp :

https://shop.scamptrailers.com/p-431...ce-per-ft.aspx

I was wanting to get an idea of how this should be reinstalled. I know i need to pull the old out and put new in, but how much goes in? My gasket is several short pieces and looks like most of it is gone. Does this gasket go all the way around the window? or just along the bottom and sides?

If it goes all around the window i'm sure it should be in one piece and if so i'm sure there's a trick to getting it all installed.

thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure it's one continuous piece, Scamp sells it by the foot.

You'll need to join the two pieces at the bottom of the window with gasket caulk. Scamp sells the gasket by the foot and it's one loooooong piece. Don't forget the lockstrip too. AND, you'll need a lockstrip tool. There are cheaper places to buy it than here, and some only come with one head, but this will give you an idea of what you need: Windshield Lockstrip Tool : All-Glass Parts Do not try to put the lockstrip in without it. It CAN be done, but you'll regret it.

Andrew it goes all the way around the front plexiglass window.

Here's an entire recent topic about it: http://www.fiberglassrv.com/forums/f...ket-45285.html

I just finished installing new windows in my boler, and yes the lockstrip does go all the way around the window. You can buy the lockstrip tool, but i made my own. Will post a pic tomorrow since the tool is in the trailer. The job is not that difficult as long as you take your time and have some patients, which I have very little of. There is also some good youtube videos on how to do it as well.

I looked at those posts and found a youtube video of it. It appears as if those are just talking about the solid plexiglass windows. My side and back windows are sliding, and the gasket I'm looking at goes inside the outer gasket. Does any of that make sense?

Ohhh, huge difference. Ignore everything I said. BUT, the gasket still goes all the way around the window.... between the glass and the frame. I didn't know Scamp sold that stuff. I knew they sold the gasket for the plexi windows, but the windows are manufacturered by Hehr and I thought you had to purchase the gasket material elsewhere.

I'm talking about the gasket where the glass slides on. (in the channel)
I just assumed that this: https://shop.scamptrailers.com/p-431...ce-per-ft.aspx was the correct stuff.
I could be wrong, their photo makes it hard to tell.

I need to be quiet.... I've never replaced that stuff. Hope someone will jump in.

Sorry again for all the confusion.

Hi all,
Not sure if this is helpful, but here is the link to where I detailed replacing the side windows in my U-Haul with a gasket with a lockstrip, and the felt the window pane slides on. Not sure if the same products would work for you. However, if you can use a gasket with a lockstrip I think it would be much easier than one without, based on my experience.

Bridget

Addendum: Andrew, the picture you just put up looks exactly like the felt from Perfectfit I put in my windows. However they have different sizes, not sure what size you would require for Scamp windows as opposed to U-Haul windows. The size I bought ( Perfectfit AS-1268) worked perfectly for my windows.

Is that what you bought from Scamp? If not, try this link, starting about half-way down the page: Interstate Metal Fabricators, Inc. Interstate folks are really helpful, you might consider giving them a call for help in putting the weather strip in....
