We now have a small kitten and didn't want to wait for him to claw his way through our screen door.

A trip to Home Depot and $2.50 plus $5 sticky back Velcro was our solution. We purchased a 2 ft piece of clear plastic runner (ours has a design)... Took 5 minutes to cut it to fit 19" x 19" and used Velcro. "Jerry" can look out and our screen is safe from damage.

First thing I did when I got my camper, was to screw that 1" x 1" mesh cage wire over the screen wire, so that the cat could not scratch the screen out. Not that she would !! But just in case. I can still get full ventilation, weather permitting, and she likes to sit there, and watch everyone. It has lasted several years, and eight states !! She is a Happy Camper.
One reason that she doesn't scratch at the screen is that if I see her scratching her RV round toy that has a scratcher in the middle, and a play ball that runs in a track around it, I know that it is time to cut off the tips of her nails, with some toenail clippers. That is why they scratch things, to get those long tips off. I often find them around her sisal post, in the house, if I haven't tipped her nails. She lets me do it, as she knows that it feels better.
