OK
I think I have my sway bar all mounted now. By rotating the handle, I get varying degrees of tension between the two sliding parts. I'm going to guess I set it so that if I pull real hard that it will slide and see what happens on the road. Is that where I start?
If I have too much tension between the two, how do I know?

I dont know for sure, but the one i recieved withe the casita say 3 turns of the handle to release tension. the adjusting nut is pre set for 1300 pounds.
if this does not give enought sway protection tighten nut 1/4 turn and try again.
and to take out the bar and clean with steel wool after fisrt 1000 miles then every 10000 miles .
never lubricate or paint the slide bar.
notes say not to use bar on wet , icy or oily roads ( guess that leaves 75% of the country out)
i tuun the handle till it is hard to turn and the hadle is not in a position to spear any body parts
hope this help

I was always told (and my instructions stated the same thing) to hand tighten then back off a half a turn. That's still somewhat ambiguous, but that's what I've done and it's worked perfectly for me.

I wouldn't mess with the hex nut. Our trailers aren't that heavy. Perhaps when it's old and worn, you might have to, but I wouldn't think it'd be necessary when it's new. Just my opinion, of course.

Just curious....Is this after you put your trailer back onto it`s wheels and get it out of the ditch?...Benny
