Trailer: Play Pac ('Egg Krate')

Hi all. I'm working out some future mods for the PP and need some advice. The water inlet is a presently only a plugged hole in the side of the trailer. I am wondering, as I build things in, if it would be viable to use a good quality hose for the water run instead of pcv? At present I'm thinking any water would come straight to the sink, which is at the front of the trailer. The water port is at the rear. Apparently the white water holding tank was placed under the back gaucho.

My initial thought is the hose would be less likely to leak in the long run. What's your opinions?

I think hose would be OK, but not garden hose. Marine supply stores have high burst pressure food grade (if that's the right term) hoses. I expect big box building supply stores have appropriate hoses as well. I think "food" grade and adequate burst pressure are characteristics to look for.

Another thought taken from the boat industry is that with hoses you're using hose clamps. On critical connections in boats they put two clamps on the fittings. It's just a backup. I expect there are scads of trailers out there with single clamps but it's a thought. Look for good quality stainless steel clamps, perhaps ones with a hex head so that you can use a socket wrench to tighten the clamp.

I suspect that there may be non-hose clamp fastening systems out there as well. I'd still lean towards hose clamps because I think they're resistant to loosening with vibration.

I jsut got to thinking about the recent water pressure regulator discussion Water Pressure Regulator and thought I'd suggest this as cheap insurance on the outside water hose.

I use threadless compression fittings when connecting city water to my Casita (see photos).

I also used them when I installed a water filter under the sink in my house.

I have never had any leaks at low pressure (Casita after pressure regulator) or house (high pressure city water - >70 lbs.) and they are very simple to install. I purchased mine at Home Depot, but they are available at any hardware store.

I happened across this link and will probably use this :

Jim's TrailWest Camper -- Look at the website for water mods

Marine west actually has an inlet value with pressure regulator, filter and such for a resonable price. The entry hole for the water on the Play-Pac would have to be made bigger, if I go that route, or I may follow Jim's setup and not need it.

Thanks everyone for the ideas.
