Shower Drain Check Valve
I have only towed our Scamp16 SD twice, both times I have ended up with 2 to 4" of water laying in the shower floor which I believe is coming from the drain line from the grey water holding tank. The previous owner installed a new check valve inline right after the little shower pump which should be stopping the grey water back flow...but isn't. I have unhooked the hose from one end of the check valve and used a screw driver to check the valve flap and seems to be working..the only thing I think may be wrong is the check valve isn't firmly mounted horizontal or vertical its hanging at an angle...is this the problem do you think? Or I guess the it just could be faulty. Anyone else ever have grey water back flow into the shower? Or what do you have inline to prevent grey water from running up into the shower when going downhill?

I dont have a check valve on mine either but I also dont tow with more than a tiny bit of water in the grey water tank so I have not had it back up to the shower while towing. Would not putting the plug into the shower base not stop it from coming up?
I know for sure though that the shurflow pump does not act as a check valve - found that out one day when I let the grey water tank got to full while camping. :-)

I have the same, my drain wont except a plug....I took the check valve completely off to take a better look and I believe its broken since the valve gate is loose and flops around freely. I also ran water straight through it, up or down.

That is a swing check and it is upside down. The cap must be rotated up, It works with a little gate that relies on gravity. Or you could replace it with a soft seated spring check, that is held closed in all directions with a spring. The way it is now will never work as you have discovered, the swing gate will never be closed unless your trailer is upside down.

When you have it off reach in and clean the seating ring where the gate seals against the body as there may be soap scum on the seat.

I would consider using a ball valve if the check valve isn't going to work (Though it should once you turn it over).
You could close the ball valve while travelling.....and when you get to your camp spot, just reach under and open the lever.
Pretty simple.
have a good one.

Good idea! Atleast manually closing a ball valve would eliminate the worry of the more complex swing check valve failing while in transit.
Thanks BigLew!
Hope your having a good one too!

I have this same issue and I'm going to install a hepvo to replace the p trap. That should eliminate the back flow and eliminate a freeze point for winterization. Doesn't solve residual water in the pump and drain line though.
