Snap cap/Button cap question

I need to replace my snap caps on my scamp, all the rivets are tight. Can I glue the snap caps to the rivet head without replacing the rivet? If so what kind of glue will work?

If most of your caps look like that or better, then you are likely in for a pleasant surprise. Snap off those deteriorated caps and you may find many of the snap washers intact, allowing for simply spapping on new caps.
A small dab of silicone will hold the cap on over damaged washers but use a small enough amount to avoid squishing silicone out from the cap.

If the snap washers are good, then no you don't have to replace the rivet.

Cap on left, washer on right

If the snap washers are as deteriorated as the snap caps, then I would replace the whole thing, including the rivet.

I'm going to disagree with Floyd. As far as I'm concerned there isn't ANY silicone that's good for use on a molded fiberglass trailer. There are better products. Silicone was invented by the Devil to the bane of owners. Remember, rivet covers go on snap ring for a reason. You only need to put a tiny bit of caulk in the center hole of the rivet to seal it. It's not necessary to blob it on to hold the cap to the snap ring.

Proper Procedure

While we are on the subject.

What is the "proper" procedure for replacing rivets in a scamp?

1) I drill out the old rivet.
.
.
.
.
21) I drive away in my happy reconditioned scamp.

What comes in between.

I know the part about the snap cap base, and the snap cap.

Does the snap cap go on ALL exterior rivets?

Does a sealant go in the hole "prior" to pushing the rivet in.

And Im sure there is a listing here stating the size rivets that scamp uses for different components. . donna maybe you can point me that direction.

Thanks for all the continued support everyone. .
