snap caps info needed

Beautiful day here in Kansas yesterday! Decided to check out the camper-pulled the cover off and found 3 screw covers or caps laying on the ground. They won`t pop back on and stay on.
Went to the hardware store and bought some-they don`t stay on either.
Can I caulk them on and what type of caulking should I use.
I saw caps with attached rings-but I would have to take out the screw and put the screw through the ring ,install the screw and then pop the cap on , really didn`t want to do this- any help is appreciated.
Hope all this makes sense.

did you call Casita and see if you can order them? I know Scamp does.. i have ordered a whole bag acouple of times to have spares around... I will need to order the little plastic rings that the caps snap on when i get my trailer painted.

I have about 2 that needed to be put back on ( ring is gone ) so I just used the clear sillacone to put them back on temperarely

Silicone and paint do not play well together. Do not use any silicone product on anything you expect to paint in the future. It causes the paint to fish eye. And this includes wax with silicone in it. If you have used silicone products be certain to tell the painter.

Fish eyes are small craters that form in the paint finish. Fish eye defects form where the paint piles up in a circle surrounding a point on the surface that contains a contaminant. The reason freshly sprayed paint does this is because contaminants like wax and silicone tend to create high surface tension and do not allow the paint to properly flow and self-level. Instead of laying down flat, paint moves away from these ingredients, forming a ring around them that has the visual appearance of what is historically described as a fish eye. In severe cases, where the painter does not properly prepare the bodywork for painting, contamination from wax, oils and silicones can cause paint adhesion problems.

your correct donna... i plan on removing any silicone that was used under the few caps anyways before i get my trailer painted....

Unfortunately, the ring material does deteriorate and breaks off instead of mating with the cap -- In extreme cases, the entire ring goes, leaving the rivet loose.
